Welcome to Vertical Wind AB

Vertical Wind AB develops and manufactures the next generation of wind turbines. In essence our concept is vertical axis wind turbines where the generator is direct-driven and placed at ground level. The innovative concept provides excellent cost efficiency because the design involves few moving parts and lacks a gearbox. In all we provide a simple, robust and quiet design with low maintenance costs.

New future concepts!

Our vertical windmill continues to attract a lot of attention, and we have in a short period of time been contacted regarding two independent concepts for offshore projects. HEXICONs platform concept, (see picture) is one of them, and Vertical Wind supports Hexicons premium application in NER300. Included in this concept are 25 to 30 windmills from Vertical Wind.

What is NER300?

"NER300" is the nickname of a financing instrument managed jointly by the European Commission, European Investment Bank and Member States, so-called because Article 10(a) 8 of the revised Emissions Trading Directive 2009/29/EC contains the provision to set aside 300 million allowances (rights to emit one tonne of carbon dioxide) in the New Entrants’ Reserve of the European Emissions Trading Scheme for subsidising installations of innovative renewable energy technology and carbon capture and storage (CCS). The allowances will be sold on the carbon market and the money raised - which could be as much as 4.5 bn EUR if each allowance is sold for 15 EUR - will be made available to projects as they operate.

First vertical-axis wind turbine operational

On April 14 Vertical Wind's first 200 kW wind turbine went on line and started to deliver energy to the power grid. This is the first full-scale vertical-axis wind turbine in Sweden. It is placed in Falkenberg, where it will soon be joined by three more turbines from Vertical Wind. The systems are ordered by E.ON and Falkenberg Energy and the park project is also supported by the Swedish Energy Authority.
"-We are currently going through the initial test program, and everything is working according to plan," says Vertical Wind's CEO Björn Hellström.
Vertical Wind's innovative concept with vertical-axis wind turbines where the generator is direct-driven and placed at ground level provides excellent cost efficiency, as the design involves few moving parts and lacks a gearbox. The 200kW system is designed for low noise emissions, low service need and with outstanding turbulent air handling properties. This makes it an ideal choice for local energy production and aerodynamically difficult but windy sites as ports, urban areas and commercial centers.

Sweden's first major vertical-axis wind turbine operational

2010-02-23
E.ON, Vertical Wind and Falkenberg Energi have today completed construction on the first major vertical-axis wind turbine in Sweden. The wind turbine is a prototype intended to demonstrate an entirely new wind power concept.

Björn Hellström, President of Vertical Wind said: -"The advantage of a vertical-axis wind turbine is that it is very economical to operate which is a key important issue for wind power operators

During the next couple of weeks commissioning will continue before it is ready to be started.

Ericsson and Vertical Wind in joint research project

Vertical Wind has, in colaboration with Uppsala university and telecom giant Ericsson, constructed a wind turbine for mounting on Ericsson's Tower Tube type radio masts. By powering base stations with a renewable energy source, Ericsson aims to reduce their carbon emissions as well as ease network expansion in developing countries. See our press release (in swedish).

The project is also described in the press releases of Ericsson and Uppsala University.
